Burgers and Beers, Member of the Month, Sunday Social Run and the Big Tri-out…

Hello OxfordTri Family,

I hope that you’ve had a nice week and managed to tune into some of the amazing Paralympics. I don’t know about you but it’s been incredibly inspiring.

It’s been a busy week for us as a club with our committee meeting on Monday where we began to analyse the great information provided through our survey. See below two of the graphs produced as a result. We hope you will agree that this shows how diverse a bunch we are.

Forms response chart. Question title: What type of athlete do you consider yourself?
. Number of responses: 72 responses.

Forms response chart. Question title: What is your preferred distance?
. Number of responses: 71 responses.

We also promised a prize draw for some free places for next year. Congrats to the following people who were selected at random; Megan Cookson (Blenheim Palace Triathlon) and David Woolverton (Oxfordshire Sprint Triathlon)

Finally, a final plug for our final Burgers and Beers Social of the year this Wednesday. I just wanted to remind people that our swim slot is 30min earlier due to the sunlight so will run 6:30 till 7:30pm with the social afterwards. It would be amazing to see as many people there as possible. You can sign up below

God Bless

The Final Burgers and Beers Social of The Year

Our Final Burgers and Beers Social at Queenford Lake for the year will take place on Wednesday the 11th of September 2024.

This will involve the opportunity to swim as part of our normal OxfordTri Wednesday Night Social Swim 6:30-7:30pm. With the Burgers and Beers served from 7:15 (dietary requirements and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks will be provided).

***Please email any dietary requirements to Graceë Gilbert (ge.gilbert@hotmail.com)***

The cost is £10 per person and this will include a minimum of 1 burger and 2 beverages (non alcoholic available).

This year we are using a ticketed system to try and speed up the serving system and to enable us to better gauge the quantities of food and drink for the evening. Tickets are limited so if you know you can make it, please do buy them as soon as possible.

Tickets can be purchased here – https://www.oxfordtri.uk/product/11thsept/

Deadline for buying tickets will be 10pm on the 8th of September after this point we will not be able to guarantee that you will be able to get food/drink.

We would love for friends and family to join us and on this occasion, they will be able to join in the 6:30-7:30pm swim as long as they are an adult, can swim 400m unaided, have the correct kit (Tow Float and Bright Swim Cap) and have completed our Open Water Guest Form  (this enables us to store ICE details)

Member of the Month – Liam Gilbert

We are delighted to share that Julys Member of the Month is Liam Gilbert. Many of you will know Liam from his BBQ-ing exploits at the lake socials. However, what you might not know is that alongside serving the club in a number of ways Liam has been training diligently for his first ever ironman in Kalmar last month. Liam absolutely smashed it and has gone from a complete novice to ironman (and Marathon Des Sables) finisher in just a number of years. We are super thankful to have you are part of our OxfordTri family and look forward to hearing about the next adventure.

Next week we will share our Member of the Month for August.

OxfordTri – Big Tri-out

We are excited to share details of our first ever OxfordTri Big Tri-out!

This event is a Social Triathlon which is taking place in conjunction with our last lake swim of the year at Queenford Lake on the 28th of September.

The concept of the event is that across the morning and early afternoon club members will have the opportunity to take on all or some of the three triathlon disciplines (Swim, Bike, Run). For those who do manage to complete all three there will be a finishers medal.

It is important to note that this is not a race, more an opportunity to enjoy the sport we love with fellow club members.

Finally, the distance is up to you. The laps of the courses for the bike and run and speed that you complete each of them are completely up to you.

Below are some of the key details of the day, for those who sign up there will be a more in-depth briefing sent the week of the event. More info including the courses can be found at our website using the following link – https://www.oxfordtri.uk/oxfordtri-big-tri-out/

OxfordTri Cross Country Team Manager

The cross country season is often a highlight for many of our OxfordTri members. This year we are looking for someone to step into the role of Team Manager which used to be help by Kelly. The main responsibility of this role is to act as a point of contact between the club and the cross country league organisers. This means sharing entries etc. If you would be interested in finding out more about this role, or are interested in helping out do get in touch.

We have attached the league manual which has been recently released to help give a more information (see below)
