Member of the Month, Open Water Swims and Helping Out

Hello OxfordTri Family,

I hope that this finds you well and that you’ve managed to avoid the majority of showers this week. I joined the lucky ones on Thursday night who avoided the rain whilst taking part in the session at the track however with my last session being in February lucky is perhaps on reflection not the word that I would use. I’m pleased I made it tough and look forward to getting back into my running.

There’s quite a lot in this newsletter so I’ll keep this brief. This is a busy month with the lead up to our Aquathlon and then Open Water Familiarisation Sessions in May. For those that have put their names up to potentially volunteer on the 28th I’ll be in touch hopefully at some point his week just to share some details and confirm availability.

Again, this next week or so is probably our last chance to get people to sign up for the event so please do be thinking about who you could challenge to a race or that would be interested in easing into the world of multi-sport. Here’s the link to our info page on the website why not drop it in a WhatsApp to a few colleagues or friends this week?

I hope that you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you at some sessions this week.

God Bless

Member of the Month

We are delighted to share that our Member of the Month for March is none other than Bernard. Unless you’ve done our member lead Headington hill run sessions on Tuesday night or taken part in the Cross Country season you might not know Bernard. He has been a member of the club for a number of years and the organiser and face of Headington hill run since pre-covid times. Bernard always as time for members old and new and can often be found gently encouraging members to rehydrate using the nearest public house. Bernard thank you for being such a present and welcoming face of OxfordTri. We are so privileged to have you as part of the family. Thank You!

Open Water Swim Sessions

As promised here is an update with regards to our open water swims at Queensford Lake this summer. We are really excited to be back there this year and I’m sure that you will agree that we are incredibly fortunate to be able to use this space not just once but twice a week at points throughout the summer.

Our Saturday morning sessions which run 8-9am will be starting the first weekend in May and running through till September.

Our Wednesday evening sessions which run 7-8pm will be starting the first Wednesday in June running through till September. This is slightly different from last year however analysing the attendance and considering the need for the club to make some savings we have decided that this would be in the best interest for all. This means that our pool sessions on Wednesday night are set to continue through to that point unless there is a significant drop of in attendance.

We are also going be having our Burgers and Beers social not once but twice and have plans to trial a ‘bring a buddy’ session in the alternative months that we’ve not got the BBQ fired up.

Finally, to make these sessions happen we need you to share responsibility when it comes to helping out supervise the session. We will share more about what this role entails over the coming weeks but do be thinking about helping in this role at least once throughout the summer.

I hope you are as excited to get back in the lake as we are!
