Member of the Month – Oxford Tri Newsletter

Good Evening Oxford Tri Family,

I hope that this finds everyone well. It’s been great to be back on home soil and straight into a committee meeting for the club. Monday was the first time that the committee had met in person since COVID and we possibly could still have been there now chatting away. This isn’t a bad thing but a huge testimony to all of the amazing things currently going on within the club and future hopes and aspirations that we have as a committee. I can’t help but be excited for what the immediate and long-term future holds for the club.

A big welcome to those who have joined the club this week, welcome to the Oxford Tri Family. I hope that you will see that we have many great things going on and if you do have any questions about anything please do reach out to myself or ask someone who looks like they’ve been around for a while at a session. I’ll let them decide if that’s compliment or not…

Finally, I’m delighted to announce that each month we will be having an Oxford Tri Member of the Month. This award recognises and celebrates those individuals within our club who encapsulate everything that we want to stand for as a club. This isn’t about the fastest athlete or who’s got the cleanest bike but those members who make this club just an awesome place to be. This can be through their training ethos, willingness to help, achieving their goals and much much more. Check out January’s winner below.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you at some sessions.

God Bless

Craig

XC League by Kelly

Round 4 of the Oxfordshire Cross Country Championship took place last Sunday at the Cotswold Park Farm near Chipping Norton. It was a lovely winter day with the course in perfect condition.

Twelve athletes from Oxford Tri Club were ready to rise to the challenge over 8.25km of rolling grassland. It included a short single-file goat track, a nasty little descent and an annoyingly long uphill grind ….. but the downhill to the finish was enjoyable.

Stuart Faulkner (our Marshal of the day) checked us in at the Finish where, it was (once more) the Oxford Tri Ladies who were the stars.

  • Ladies A took second place in Division 2.
  • In Division 3, Ladies B managed to beat 3 other teams (despite their having only 2 runners).
  • With a full team of seven runners, the gentlemen managed to be ‘not-bottom’ in Division 2.

In the far more important Club XC Championship, the ladies continue to lead the way with only 10 points separating Catherine Daw and Hannah Slater, in first and second places, with Alice Harper in third – a further 13 points back.

Best placed of the gentlemen are Alex Thorley, Guy Roberts and Matthew Lawrence; within 8 points of each other, in places 5, 6 and 7.

The last race of the season will be at Henley Showground on Sunday 5th March so please reserve the day in your diaries – especially if you’re in the running for a medal or the incredibly valuable XC Champion’s Trophy.

Chilly Duathlon

The Chilly Duathlon on the 5th of March this year down near Chippenham at Castle Combe Race Track. This is our first Club Championship Event of the year and we have already have an amazing number of Oxford Tri members signed up and it would be awesome to see even more! The course is fantastic you run around the outside of the race track and then you cycle on it. Trust me you won’t cycle on a better surface this year and this an amazing event if you have never tried anything like it before. The only possible down side, it can get a bit cold and windy.

We have also secured a club discount code to enter which can be found here along with details of the Club Championships. As we are trying to be more sustainable as a club, closer to the event we will be organising some lift shares. If transport would be an issue, please do get in touch with me at chair@oxfordtri.co.uk

Member of the Month

Our first ever Member of the Month and winner of an Oxford Tri swim cap and alcoholic beverage is Kelly Lehmann. Kelly has gone above and beyond not just in January but also the past couple month spearheading the club’s cross-country athletes. Not only does he give his time to write awesome race reports for the newsletter but he also takes care of all the cross-country official admin for the club. He is the first person to arrive and often the last to leave at races and can be found throughout, either securing the club tent so it doesn’t blow away, bribing fellow athletes with baking that he has acquired or talking with others about his sporting ambitions for the future. As described by a number of people whilst we considered a suitable winner for this month, Kelly is an all-round legend! Thank you for everything that you do Kelly.
