Hi Everyone
Firstly welcome to our new members this week, and happy 50th birthday for yesterday to Head Coach Nathan. Great to see club members celebrate after S&C on Thursday and join a virtual ride yesterday morning. I hope your hangover this morning is truly epic and we’ll have to add that to the list of proper celebrations that we need to catch up on post lockdown when the pubs are all open in the summer.
Next up, well done to the club’s elite virtual cyclists, once again taking the honours in the inter club challenge between Oxford Tri and Swindon and Leighton Buzzard Tri clubs. This time a clean sweep of the top 8 positions! Once again top of the podium showing the boys how to ride was Rebecca. Awesome use of lockdown to try out new ways to stay motivated and get fit in a friendly competitive spirit.
We’ve got a full schedule of sessions next week with an event or training session at least once a day. We all know the importance of cross-training when it comes to avoiding injuries and building core strength, and I’ve yet to meet a triathlete who doesn’t wish for more lean muscle. So it’s great to have Rebecca return for our regular yoga for triathletes session, and another sports science talk from James Potts this week focusing on muscle growth.
At our March committee meeting on Monday we agreed to add in a couple of extra S&C/ pilates sessions, so look out for those appearing in the coming weeks. The convenience of doing those sessions virtually seems to have really taken life with the Club’s members and so in consultation with you the members and if there is demand then I think that might well prove to be a permanent change. Whilst we await official BTF guidance about holding training sessions post 28 March, we are all currently working on the assumption that we will be starting with track and group rides of up to six, and then back into the lake once the water temperature is a bit more reasonable. Unfortunately it will likely be a couple more months until pools are open again, and that’s probably the key step needed before race events will be allowed. But lots of room for optimism now I think for the second half of the year.
Enjoy the spring sunshine and daffodils out on your rides, and I look forward to seeing lots of you at the quiz tomorrow evening!
Any questions, as ever just ping me.
